Gambling Recovery Testimonials
Before I came to Williamsville Wellness I was in despair. I couldn’t find a way to quit gambling and I kept going downhill. I was always trying to recoup losses. It never happened for me because I would just go right back. My family and friends didn’t want anything to do with me and I was miserable. I felt like I had no way out and was hopeless. Now, after the help of the program at Williamsville Wellness I have started into a new life. With the tools I learned, my self esteem returned and my life isn’t in shambles anymore. It took some work. Without the help and people at Williamsville I couldn’t have done it on my own.
Thank you,
Kelly M.
Hi! I’m Vern. I’m a compulsive gambler. That was difficult to admit when I attended my first GA meeting. But it was even more difficult after I had relapsed. I had stopped gambling for more than three years when I succumbed to the compulsion of gambling again. It was at this time that I knew I needed more than a weekly GA meeting to get me on the road of recovery. I searched the web for places that concentrated on compulsive gambling and found Williamsville Wellness Center. I made contact and Bob called me. With his encouragement to come, I applied and have never been sorry. Apprehensive at first, I was welcomed by other compulsive gamblers at that time and through the four weeks, by the staff. The staff Bob has put together is incredible “top shelf” all the way. They challenged me, listened to me, guided me, and encouraged me to see the true inner self and the possibilities that had been hidden by my own behavioral patterns and the compulsive gambling. Today, I am on my road of recovery, thanks to the staff at Williamsville Wellness. I read and study the Twelve Steps, attend GA meetings, and diligently work on my recovery. I was blessed to have a spouse and family that were supportive of this process and continue to do so. What Williamsville Wellness offered to me was worth the time, the effort, the financial obligation, and the work to get me back on track and be the person that is not cured, but a recovering compulsive gambler.

When I was out there gambling I had lost everything. For 15 years I had been struggling, and just didn’t want this life anymore. I finally called for help and the people and Williamsville Wellness told me my life could change. Well it has and I’m grateful that I found a way out.
Thank you,
Shea L.
When my husband introduced me to Williamsville Wellness I was scared. I didn’t understand how they were going to be able to help me. I didn’t think I was addicted to gambling. I felt I had managed well for my family. It was when my husband found out I had ran our two major credit cards up to the max trying to cover my bets that he told me I should get some help. The people at Williamsville understood me and showed me how I could be free of my compulsive gambling. It took me admitting it first that was hard. After my counseling started I realized that I had a big problem and it was very clear. Today, I have so much support.
Thank you very much Williamsville Wellness,
Donna M.
I’ve known Dr. Martz for 13 years. I’m a 48 year old man who has struggled with compulsive gambling since I was 18. I was most recently treated by Dr. Martz in a rehab in Baltimore in 2007, and have thankfully been bet free since then. I see a therapist weekly and a psychiatrist monthly for bipolar disorder medication, along with my weekly GA meeting. This seems to do the trick.
I am thrilled you hired Dr. Martz. In 30 years of seeing counselors, psychiatrists, etc. I believe Mr. Martz to be the most effective, genuine, compassionate, and kind professional I have met. I believe he got this way by working for many years with the one other professional in the field who I believe is excellent…Dr. Val. I live in the Philadelphia suburbs, and believe me if Dr. Martz were anywhere close I’d be seeing him on a weekly basis. As a point of fact I tried to continue to see him in Baltimore but unfortunately he was working under a doctor who insisted I would have to see him as well as Dr. Martz….so I declined. (I felt this doctor’s methods were abusive)
In any case I’m happy you hired Dr. Martz and you are lucky to have him. I have no doubt he will help all of your patients. If you ever set up any weekend or 3 day follow sessions for recovering compulsive gamblers please let me know as I would be very interested .
Wishing you well in your endeavors. Opening a treatment center for compulsive gamblers is financially and emotionally trying, but sorely needed. If I find anybody in my GA rooms who needs the extra help of your services, I’ll send them your way.
Sincerely,
Greg
